WHAT HAPPENED TO MY NAVIGATOR?
I’m sure most of you are wondering what happened to the March/April Navigator. Well it was not ready at the printer until well into March. It was then taken to the Post Office. It sat there for a few days until they informed us that we had not paid our yearly Permit Fee. The Fee was actually paid in December but it took several weeks working with our Financial Secretary and Treasurer to get a copy of the cancelled check. When this was finally straightened out it was too late to mail the March/April issue.
We went to a two month issue to save money but we continue to have problems getting the newsletter out on time. One suggestion is to email a copy to all members who have an email address, then mail copies to anyone who does not. This looks like the fastest and most cost effective way to do it. To get this started I need anyone who does not receive my email updates and messages to send me their email address ASAP. My email address is iceberg5555@comcast.net.
The cost of sending the Navigator runs about $1,200 per year. We can cut this expense plus get the newsletter to our members a lot faster with this new method but we need your help. If you can receive email please give me your address.
ELECTION AND NOMINATIONS
Each year most of the Council offices are up for election. At the May Business Meeting we will take nominations for these offices. ANY THIRD DEGREE MEMBER IS ELEGIBLE TO RUN FOR ANY OFFICE. If you would like to run for an office please attend the May meeting. If you are unable to attend just ask a member who will be there to nominate you for the office. You can also call me as let me know that you are running. The Outside Guard positions are a good place to start. It gets you into the officer’s ranks and allows you to get the feel of participating. Each year you will have the opportunity to move up a chair although it is not required.
At the June Business Meeting we will elect the Officers for the upcoming Columbian Year. I would like to list the officers so that you can think about running for one of the offices:
Outside Guard (2),
Inside Guard, Warden,
Advocate,
Treasurer,
Recorder,
Chancellor,
Deputy Grand Knight,
Grand Knight,
Three Year Trustee
If you need an explanation of the duties of any of these offices, please contact me and I will give you all of the information you need.
RSVP SUCCESS
Our R.S.V.P. Fund drive was a big success this year thanks to the help of two of our members. In past years we collected donations in front of the Maple Shade Wawa on a Friday and Saturday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. The past few years we were able to collect enough to support a seminarian and a novice sister with $500.00 donations to each. Last year Wawa changed it’s policy. We were only allowed to collect between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. This severely limited our donation total. Fortunately we had enough in our Vocations Account to make up the difference. We needed to find a way to collect additional funds. Our Council Fraternal Chairman, Joe Stefanko, talked to the manager of the Main Street Acme and secured permission for us to collect on two days in March. I then got permission from Wawa to collect two days in April. The total for the two collections was $554. Enough to support our seminarian but unfortunately not enough to donate to our novice sister. Brother Ray Cox offered a challenge to our members. He would match donations made at our Business Meeting so that we could raise the money for our novice sister. I received $290 in pledges from our members at the meeting. We had $193 in our fund plus the $54 excess from the collection, gave us a total of $537. Ray will make a donation so that we will have a carry over fund to get us started next year. Thank you Joe and Ray for making this R.S.V.P. campaign a great success.
DISABILITIES COLLECTION
On April 16th, 17th and 18th, Council 5714 joined many other Council’s in our 2010 collection for people with intellectual disabilities. Council 5714 Fraternal Chairman, Joe Stefanko, and I Co-Chaired the event. Joe took care of the Main Street Acme and I took care of the Kingsway Acme. I want to thank everyone who was able to take some time to help with the collections. I would also like to thank everyone who wanted to help but was unable due to work or prior commitments. Last year most members were unable to help so our collection totals reflected that. This year we were able to fill almost every time slot at both Acme’s. This year we were able to collect $1,159. This amount will be divided between four schools or programs that help people with intellectual disabilities. I could never remember what the four were when someone asked me so I will list them so that everyone will know. The Programs are: The ARC of Burlington County, St. John of God School, Bancroft Foundation, Holy Innocents Society.
All of these schools and programs count on people and organizations to support them so it is worth the extra time and effort that it takes to collect the donations. Thank you all again. If you didn’t have time to help this year don’t worry.
